Visual arts exhibition

Thembalethu Manqunyana is hosting an exhibition at the Athenaeum in the first week of December.
Manqunyana says he is concerned that as local artists they are not getting the recognition they deserve.
‘’We need to grab attention of all the people here in PE including our government. Our work must be known and more people must be introduced to art as a business not just as a hobby,’’ he says.
He feels it is their duty as artists to stand up and showcase their work to be recognised.
Manqunyana and other local artists gathered in 2011 as NNMU final-year students and made sculptures of some political icons that fought for democracy to honour them.
Those sculptures include the likes of Steve Biko, Robert Sobukwe.
Manqunyana is passionate about art and believes that as local artists still have a lot to do in educating others who want to join their industry.
He has hosted other exhibition and would like to make it an annual event.
Bandile Njadayi, Lethu Ngxale, Luxolo Bukani, Syabonga Ngaki are some of the artists that will be show-casing their work at the exhibition.
Everyone is welcome to witness the talent and hard work that these artists produce on the day of the exhibition.  -Londeka Dlamini
